Tamilnadu Police Traffic Wardens Organisation in Coimbatore was commissioned in the year 1987 as per G.O.Ms.No.2608 of Home Department dated 10.11.1987. Being a government run purely voluntary and uniformed service the primary duty of the traffic wardens is to inculcate traffic sense among public and assist the traffic police in traffic education.

The Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime & Traffic, CoimbatoreCity are the departmental heads of the organization while the Chief Traffic Warden is the civilian head.
Duties of Traffic Wardens
The main duty of the Traffic Wardens is to assist in regulating the vehicular traffic and pedestrians and to educate the road users, college students and school children in the matter of Road Safety. Regular traffic duties will be on two days in a week (at present Wednesdays and Fridays) for two to three hours in evening, other than the regular traffic duties mentioned above, the Traffic Wardens also go for special duties during: VIPs’ visits, Assembly and General Elections, Bundh, Festivals, Traffic week Programmes etc.
Parade and Drill
Parades for the Traffic Wardens are conducted once in a month between 06.45 and 07.30 Hours at the PRS Grounds.
Recruitment
Traffic Wardens are recruited by a selection board consisting of the Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police Crime & Traffic and the Chief Traffic Warden.
Qualification
Any Indian citizen of both sex with good physique and health, well educated, aged between 25 to 45 years preferably, having own conveyance with valid driving license, good social status and behaviors and enough income can become a Traffic Warden.
Uniform
Traffic Wardens wear uniform of khaki shirts, khaki pants, cap and others as specified in the Government Order. The identity cards will be issued to them based on their satisfactory performance and behaviors.
Powers
Since the Traffic Wardens’ Organisation is a voluntary body, there is no statutory powers. The services of the Senior Traffic Warden Officers are utilized for Traffic and Accident Analysis.
Remuneration
No remuneration of any kind (cash or any kind) is given to the Traffic Wardens.

To promote TPTW and RSP conducted Academic Sports and Games Meet at district level for five years. More than 100 schools participated. TheVIPs were DGP's and District Collectors.
During the period of bomb-blast many check points were managed by TrafficWardens assisted by the Special Police, CRPF, SAF, RAF, NCC cadets andNSS volunteers.
Installed India's first ‘PELICAN CROSSING’ (a signal operated by school children's themselves), in front of the Francis Convent Schools, Coimbatore.
The DREAM PROJECT ‘Model Road’ was designed by Dr. Francis Pinto the then Dy. Director of the organisatioin was known at State Level. To engineer this project it took ten years of surveyand planning. The project was discussed at Tamil Nadu State Assembly.
June 2008
By a special drive the attendance of Traffic Wardens was increased from 6.5% to 77%, increased duty locations from single Gandhipuram Jn. to 2 new junctions Hope College and Shobha Corner Jn.
July 2008
Issued 969 participation certificates to all RSP cadets who participated in the year 2007-2008, winners of competitions were awarded certificates; Best RSP School of the year award was announced and awarded to CMC Matriculation School.
Introduced ROAD SAFETY CHAMP awards and were presented to Dr. Rajasekaran and Rotary Club Governor for their contribution to the cause of Road Safety.
August 2008
Enrolled 1586 RSP students for the year from 44 schools and Trained 589 of them at their schools.
September 2008
Initiated new methods of Road Safety Propagation in a consumer trade fair show at Codicil on the 5th of Sep 2008, 40,000 public participated in ON SPOT competitions and 300 awards issued.
33 RSP cadets were trained on basic aspects of Road Safety who then conducted all competitions for the public
Conducted Road Safety awareness program at Sathguru Seveshram for their students.
November 2008
Initiated a new concept of RoadSafety Education for schools and colleges. This was initiated and conducted as Friendly Five Road Safety Competitions. Event was conducted for the Road Safety Patrol cadets, at Nirmala College Auditorium on the 29th of November 2008. 802 RSP students from 29 schools participated. Conducted 28 competitions and 53 winners were selected.
Compiled and released Road Safety Patrol Hand Book to 1500 RSP cadets.
3 Road Safety Champ Awards were issued to prominent personalities of Coimbatore awards were presented by the Commissioner of Police Sri. KC Mahali IPS
Initiated distribution of 500 free uniform jackets to Road Safety Patrol cadets,
sponsored by Roots Industries. And conducted First Aid awareness program for the RSP.
January 2009
Organised Road Safety Week from 1st to 10th of Jan 2009.
Distributed 35000 Road Safety handouts in VOC park exhibition and conducted Road Safety Rally of city RSP students.
Issued 200 ROSES to sensible drivers on midnight of New Year
Conducted Inter College Friendly Five Road Safety Competitions for students from colleges, at CIT College Auditorium on the 24th of January 2009. 828 RSP students from 38 colleges participated. 52 Road Safety Champs were awarded to
winners of the competitions.
